The combination of oranges and carrots offer a great antioxidant boost, thanks to their high content of vitamin C and beta-carotene. However, I found the taste a little bland, so I decided to search some ways on how to make it sweeter.
In my quest for the perfect taste, I have discovered some great smoothie recipes that you can try at home. Read on as I show you 3 smoothie recipes plus tips on how to get you started.
Ingredients That You Need
Contrary to popular belief that an orange fruit is acidic, it is actually alkalizing once it combines with your stomach acid. Oranges are great smoothie ingredients because they’re rich in vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. They’re known to lower blood pressure, prevent diabetes, and improve heart health.
Before you throw the orange into the smoothie mix, section and remove any seeds. You can leave the seeds if you’re using a commercial blender. Alternatively, you can use a 1/2-1 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice if you don’t want the extra pulp and seeds to bother you.
Chopped or Shredded Carrots
Carrots give that excellent antioxidant boost in your smoothie. It is rich in beta-carotene, vitamin K. vitamin C, and calcium.
Since carrots are hard, you may need to chop or shred the carrots into smaller pieces so your blender will pulverize them finely. You will need about 2 medium carrots for all the recipes.

If you are trying to lose weight, it is best to add a celery stalk into your smoothie. It is rich in fiber and low in calories. It is important to note though that celery has a unique flavor so using one stalk is sufficient.
You may need about 14 walnut halves to use as a garnish for this smoothie recipe. They give that rich, fresh taste that goes perfectly with a chilled smoothie. This is an optional ingredient because this might not suit people with nut allergies.
For this recipe, you will need about 2 tablespoons (tbsp.) of fresh ginger, which are peeled and minced. This ingredient will provide a spicy flavor to your smoothie. It is a great addition to this smoothie recipe because it complements the citrus flavor of orange very well.
You probably think that lemon will make your smoothie sour, but it can actually make your smoothie taste good when used in small amounts. For this recipe, you will need about 2 tbsps. of lemon juice, to be exact. This juice will work as the liquid ingredient for your orange carrot smoothie.
The ice cubes will be your frozen ingredient for this recipe. You need about 8 ice cubes to create this smoothie. Alternatively, you can use a frozen orange juice to avoid a watery consistency.

Adding mango to your smoothie is great because it is rich in vitamin C and fiber. The frozen mango will act as the frozen ingredient of this smoothie instead of ice. This not only going to offer a creamy texture, but it can sweeten your smoothie naturally.
If you find that the consistency has gone too thick, add water. This is an option for those who want a thinner consistency. However, if you like a thick and creamy smoothie, then you may omit this ingredient.
Equipment and Tools Needed
One of the most important parts in smoothie making is a blender. You can use any blender you want, but it is more efficient to use a high-power blender. This type of blender has a motor of 2 horsepower or more.
What I use is the Vitamix 5200. It has a 2 horsepower and an easy-to-adjust speed.
You may need a mason jar to serve as a container for your smoothie output. I prefer this one because it has a holder at the side for convenience. Alternatively, you can use any glass at home as long as fits the capacity of your smoothie.
You can use any knife that you have in your kitchen. You’ll need this to cut the carrots, peel and section oranges, and mince ginger. Make sure that you use a clean and sharp knife to be efficient.
To chop the carrots and section oranges properly, you need a cutting board. You can use any cutting board that you have at home. I use a bamboo cutting board because it is eco-friendly, antibacterial, and easy to clean.
Recipe 1: Orange Carrot Smoothie With Ginger
If you want to lose weight, you can do this veggie smoothie recipe anytime. This offers several nutrients, like protein, beta-carotene, and magnesium. It only doesn’t aid you to lose some pounds, but it can also help relax your muscles.
1. Prepare the ingredients
With a knife and cutting board, peel 2 medium carrots and chop them into smaller pieces. Next, prepare the orange by peeling, sectioning, and seeding them. You can see how it’s done in this video.

Recipe 2- Orange Carrot Smoothie Immunity Enhancer
If you feel like catching a cold in any moment now, then grab a glass of this immunity enhancer. It is made with great immunity enhancing ingredients, like orange, strawberries, and blueberries. Best of all it tastes awesome.
1. Get your ingredients
For freshly squeezed orange juice, you can do it by hand. Just follow what is shown in this video here. You need about 1/2 cup of orange juice, two cups of spinach, one cup of water, one banana, 1/4 cup carrots (chopped to smaller pieces), two cups strawberries, and 1/2 cup blueberries.
2. Blend orange juice, water, and spinach
In a blender, place the orange juice, water, and spinach. Hit the pulse button and let it blend until smooth. You may need to do this for a few times to blend the spinach well. If your blender lacks the pulse button, blend on high for about 30-60 seconds.
3. Add the rest of the ingredients
After you see that the mixture has gone smooth, add the banana, carrots, strawberries, and blueberries. Blend again until smooth. Never blend the ingredients for more than a minute because it leads to nutrients loss and oxidation.
4. Pour into a glass or mason jar and serve
Until you meet the right consistency, pour the contents into a glass or mason jar. Serve and drink immediately.
Recipe 3- Orange Carrot Smoothie With Mango
This is a great energizing smoothie which offers abundant nutrients, like vitamins A, B1, and C, and folate. This is meant for one serving.
1. Get ready with your ingredients
If you’re using a high-speed blender, then you may not grate the carrots. However, if you’re using a low-end blender, grate the carrots first before you mix them in the blender. You need about two medium carrots, one cup frozen mango, one cup orange juice, and water if necessary.
2. Blend the ingredients well
In the blender, place all the ingredients except for water. Press the pulse button or blend it on high speed. Do this not more than one minute so you can still preserve their nutrients. Add water if you find the consistency to be too thick for you.
3. Serve while cold
When you find that the ingredients have all mixed well into a smooth consistency, pour the contents into a mason jar or glass. Serve and consume while cold.

Clean the blender right after you use it
According to a Vitamix chef, clean your blender immediately. Fill the container with water about halfway then add a drop of dish detergent. Use cold water in rinsing the machine to remove any residues left.
Cut the fruits into chunks before freezing
Great British Chefs suggest cutting the fruits before you freeze them. This process will save you time to thaw the fruits before cutting them into desired pieces. After you have cut the fruits into desired chunks, arrange them on a flat baking tray and freeze them overnight.
